Hello, and welcome!
Spiritsails is a story idea that began to take shape after listening to a bit too much Abney Park (ahah, what am I saying? There's no such thing as "too much" Abney Park...)
Picture, if you will, an alternate Earth - one populated by anthropomorphic creatures and fantastic beings, where Victorian aesthetics never went away. Once-familiar things take on unfamiliar appearances, and even more unfamiliar names. Technology has made its leaps and bounds, but has gone down different paths and arrived at slightly different destinations. Fantastic craft traverse sea, sky, and land alike. Clockwork, steam, and crystals power everything. Pirates and foreign corsairs are a real and ever-present danger - in the sky as well as on the seas. Men and women may stand on equal footing, but they all must make their stand in a world that is as treacherous as it is beautiful - and changing.
And that change is the driving force behind Spiritsails. Technological advances are heralding the end of an era - one where information could only be stored and transferred via crystals. Black crystals, the rarest and most information-dense crystals, have been used for decades by high-ranking political figures and military officers to store and share sensitive information - but the advent of a new, more efficient and more secure tech, the Vault, is well on its way to making them obsolete.
But a shipment of black crystals, on their way to the primary Vault chamber, has been stolen! With war threatening to break out over the loss of these valuable and irreplaceable stones, the world's governments have offered a heretofore unprecedented bounty for their safe return, leading to a global free-for-all as military, police, pirate, and corsair crews all scramble in a race against time - and each other - to be the ones to retrieve the stolen loot...
And so goes the story...
